Top 10 Finalists were announced at the National Awards Night on Thurs 22 Oct 2009, and are now listed under the Contests tab on this site, as well as on our Myspace site. Congratulations those who managed to make it to this elite group!
Special Awards also went to:
Kate Lush - Rudy Brandsma Award (for excellence in songwriting entered by an ASA Member)
Tony King – ASA/APRA 2009 Songwriter of the Year
Ross Wilson – 2009 Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame recipient
The Australian Songwriting Contest is highly respected and extremely prestigious, offering more than $30,000 in prizes. APRA/AMCOS is the Major Sponsor, providing $3,000 in cash to the Songwriter of the Year!

ASA 2009 Annual General Meeting
Please note that the ASA will hold the 2009 AGM on Sunday 29 November at the premises of the National Office at 50 Enmore Rd, Newtown, at 10.00am.
There will be 2 Board positions becoming available this year, and we now call for nominations. Any person seeking election to membership of the Board must be an ASA Member. They also need to notify the National Office of their intention, via post to Locked Bag 18/178 Newtown NSW 2042 by Sunday 1 November 2009. A person is not eligible for election to membership of the Board unless another Member has nominated them for election. The nomination form must be signed by the nominator and the nominee (to signify the nominee’s willingness to stand for election). If you wish to be sent an official Nomination Form, please request one from the National Office via the email asanationaloffice@bigpond.com

The Australian Songwriters Association has a lot to offer people who create original music in Australia, from the grass roots amateur to experienced and published songwriters.
Our services extend from personal assistance,to professional feedback on new material, and live performance opportunities for all original performers across Australia, via our network of Wax Lyrical events.
The ASA’s annual Australian Songwriting Contest is the largest competition in the country, providing great prizes and industry exposure to all finalists.
